"Oh my hair!
It looks awful."
She gives him an earful
The sound is quite dreadful
The matter painfully trivial
Yet the incessant mention of it
Makes the experience eventful
Oh dear, one's looks
How truly important are they?
The need to be attractive
To get the attention of a man
Or allure as many men as possible
To keep a man however
Is such impossible?
Perhaps if you apply a few simple rules
Don't let men play the fool
Perhaps not if you date correctly
Eliminate those who think merely sexually
Consider they who are men of honor
Upholding integrity and commitment
Hold to love more than lust
Endure difficulties and don't quit
Someone who doesn't dread
A family visit
The simplicity of life
One capable of resolving conflict
And not excessively causing strife
Oh to find such a man
Wouldn't your mother be proud
A man of financial means
Even father would cheer loud
Nevertheless beyond the dating game
Once there is mutual interest
And you near closer to an engagement
You will be on your best behavior
Hiding all your flaws and peculiarities
That might drive him away
God forbid lest your true self be seen
And then you he might inwardly demean
Of course there are days you too
Want to inwardly scream
Yet you harness yourself
Being lady like for sure
It's all about dating and the lure
The chess game until matrimony
One false move and he's mated
You know him well, the guy you once dated
He who you upheld in high esteem
Respected privately and publicly
Now however that you are married
All of these qualities you've seemingly buried
Instead you focus on other essentials
Such as hair, nails, outings with the girls
Designer clothes, shopping whirls
Spending all his money
Before he earns it
Any counsel she spurns it
As for his love, she yearns for it
But her wishes need to be met too
Giving him at home things to do
Sometimes unloading all the kids on him too
Ah yes, such apparently is marriage
You know the song with the baby carriage
Just one simple word of advice
Grown up sophisticated one
Looks may have attracted him
Yet it's intangibles that makes him run
Dating too has its wholesome fun
Once married however
Its heart over hair
Care over dare
Thanks over complaints
Nurturing over nagging
Tenderness over teasing
Listening over lecturing
Sensitivity over seduction
Silence over defiance
Patience over power
Lest the love you worked so hard for
Suddenly go sour.
Let not familiarity and disrespect
Your love devour.
